Marie

An 18th century Robe à l’Anglaise and corset was designed as well as constructed as a part of a theatrical experience. The costume was based on the extravagant lifestyle of Marie Antoinette. After designing the robe, it was draped and flat-patterned suitable fabric was chosen and some trims were developed to fit the era.

Corset construction
and details:

The corset was draped on a size 10 form. First, a muslin fit was established; and then, the pattern was transfered onto a twill fabric. Featherboning was used for this corset. A contrast piping was used to finish it.

Draping, Patterning and Construction:

The undergarments were pulled from the SCAD costume shop and the robe was, then, draped onto them. A flat pattern of the sleeve was drafted and sewn.

Styling and Photoshoot:

The shoot was conceptualised in collaboration with a HMU designer and a photographer. The pattern on the robe was chosen keeping in mind the time period, and it was shot in the wilderness reflecting the wild nature of Marie Antoinette.
